Happy New Year

Happy New Year to all!

I hope all of my readers have had a nice little break. Naturally, I have been working away furiously at my promised Wagner book. If not always writing, then at least doing lots of background reading for it. The first draft of the book is 2/3 complete and already as it stands it would make an interesting read. Yet there is still more that needs adding and revising to add yet another dimension of depth to it. The range of subject covered by the book is dizzying, and it is always daunting trying to knit everything together. Wagner, was after all a polymath. That is the trouble with polymaths in our age of ever greater specialisation. One has to be a little foolish to think one can cover all the necessary territory in trying to do justice to the subject.

I can't give away too much, but I will say I am very grateful to Gareth Stedman Jones. This has also lead me to Wolfgang Eckhardt, and back to reading more of Sir Richard J. Evans. Throw in some Frederick Beiser too.

With time all will be revealed.
